Counterfeit Devices, the NDAA, and Heightened Awareness for the US Military
In recent articles, blog posts, and on a line-up of social media channels, the trending topic of conversation has been the prevalence of counterfeit devices in critical industry applications, including military, aerospace, and medical. As we have mentioned in previous blog entries, the NDAA is now in full effect, and with this comes a curve-ball in the purchasing process for many of the military and defense operations.

Anti-Counterfeiting on the Agenda for ECIA's CARTS International 2012 Conference
On March 27th, 2012 Dr. Michael Pecht from the Center for Advanced Life Cycle Engineering Center (CALCE) will be speaking at the CARTS International Conference, the most comprehensive passive electronic components technology conference which is being held in Las Vegas, NV. Dr Pecht will be speaking with an electronics-enthused technical audience about the current issues revolving around counterfeit devices within the supply chain, and will further discuss the best solutions to reduce the presence of these threatening components.

President Signs FY'12 National Defense Authorization Act Into Law
At the very end of 2011, President Obama signed the official National Defense Authorization Act, which, implements strict protocol for purchasing of electronic components. It outlines further the repercussions for those found guilty of distributing or trading substandard devices.
As stated on MSN Money: "The 2012 National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) requires that the Department of Defense, the Department of Homeland Security, and government contractors "detect and avoid counterfeit parts in the military supply chain." President Obama signed the NDAA on December 31."
